Summary: Cindy Sue Hunter youtube interview (Crackin’ Cases https://youtu.be/y05pnaL8NpI). Posted on twitter by @xxjane doexx
This is a summary of the interview of Cindy Sue Hunter, who found the women's bodies. Unless otherwise indicated, the information below comes from the interview.
Clue Booth
Kylen's father had a clue booth in a park. He was trying to get every clue he could. He was out there for a month, and he is still running the clue booth at home, according to Cindy Sue. The clue booth was a safe place for locals to come and give clues or anything they’ve heard, like if they didn’t trust the authorities or were afraid to go to the authorities. When he lived in Moab the girls would meet him everyday at the park to chat, so that’s why he set the clue booth up there.
Cindy Sue mentioned the “creepy guy” that was too close, camping near Crystal and Kylen, and he had left and then brought more stuff back and it was making them very uncomfortable. They weren’t going to move their camp the night of August 13 though, because it wouldn’t make sense to move after midnight. Cindy Sue reports that she thinks they were ambushed when they got back.
Wedding Party
Now they are talking about the wedding party. I’m not sure what wedding party they are referring to.
[Clarification note per @xxjane doexx "Large 100+ person wedding at Whispering Oaks Ranch less than 1/2 mile away. Guests stayed at the ranch and local campgrounds entire weekend."]
Campsite Location - Place of Murder
There is a white camper on the google map at the place where they were camping (satellite view). The creek is a drainage ditch. Cindy Sue said she could see the building of Whispering Oaks from the campsite. The women were camping in the same spot where the camper is on google maps. The interviewer noted that visibility is good. (But it was late when they got home).
Cindy reports they went to a friend’s house and didn’t leave there until after 11:00 pm (after leaving the bar).
“Ruth” is the bunny rabbit who was inside a carrier and a taller shelter. Ruth didn’t have food or water, and the girls wouldn’t have left her like that. Cindy Sue says they haven’t released the caliber of the gun used to kill the two women or if the women were sexually assaulted.
Cindy Sue reports that the camping crime scene was cleaned up really fast. She was gone an hour or two from the crime scene and when she returned it was literally gone. It was shocking about how fast they did it, she says. Cindy Sue reports that two days later someone was camping there- the new campers had no idea persons had just been murdered in that spot. The journalist visiting the campsite after their deaths found a set of keys but they aren’t related.
Cindy Sue said she didn't know where the creepy guy was camping. There are some trees where a guy could have been. The women's tent was under the trees. The location is exactly where the camper now shows up on google maps. She wishes she would have taken pictures and such, but she didn’t because Kylen’s father she says, wanted her to get to safety.
There was hail and rain storms every night the bodies were laying there, she says. The two women were last seen Friday night, August 13, 2021, and she found them Wednesday morning. So potentially the creek would have washed away evidence, possibly.
Cindy Sue noted the local police is understaffed. She said the local police department is down 8 officers, and some others have left and so they are operating on a skeletal crew. The interviewer said the father asked the police to search for the girls, and she heard the police looked near Lake Warner, and Lake Owa. She drove for five hours and had pictures of the two women and asked people everywhere to try to find the girls. When she drove up to their campsite, she didn’t know it was them, not until she found the body.
Cindy Sue says she felt she HAD to search. It wasn’t normal they would not call and not show to work, she reported, so, she went on her own to find them. She went to McDonald's first to see if anyone heard anything. Crystal worked at McDonald's. No one had heard anything.
The women’s van didn’t drive and was sitting in the McDonald's parking lot. In the winter the women would come down from the mountains and stay in the van. The van had been in that parking lot as long as Cindy had been in the area. The interviewer said something about them living in the storage facility. The 1987 van of the women, it is explained, had been sold or sold for parts to someone. Cindy Sue reports Moab is a town of 5000 people who take care of over 3 million tourists a year. She said it’s like the wild wild west out there.
Cindy Sue mentioned how the mountains are a good place to go to get out of the heat in the summer. Because it’s significantly colder there, like 20 degrees. She said the mountains are a refuge. She said if anyone was at the wedding and they were taking pictures, please check your pictures.
Eleven satellite images were available for the PI she thinks.
After she called the police Cindy reports she recalls it took them over an hour to show up. She thinks she saw some Gatorade bottles or something near the body strewn around. They had a pinkish liquid in them. She got the impression perhaps Kylen was holding them.
Cindy Sue said all of her phone calls from that day disappeared from her phone. She paced back and forth near the camping site, along the highway waiting for LE to arrive. A blue car drove by with a male driver, and rolled his window down, stared at her, and drove away while she was waiting for the police.
Cindy Sue reports that earlier in life, Kylen’s brother was murdered by a friend, it was an accident. Kylen birthed a still-born baby from a rape previously as well.
